Even in a country as socially progressive as Canada, ignorance and stigma around HIV persists. We conducted a poll that proved it: 50% of Canadians wouldn’t eat a meal prepared by someone with HIV.
To smash HIV stigma, we created the world’s first HIV-positive pop-up eatery and named it “June’s” after Casey House founder, June Callwood. We then found 14 brave HIV-positive volunteers from Casey House and trained them to become chefs.
515 stories in 150 top-tier news outlets like The Guardian, NBC and more. Ticket sales generated $20,000 CDN for Casey House and $100,000 CDN in corporate donations. Most importantly, out of 12,000+ comments on social media, we inspired 27% of the audience to become advocates by responding to ignorant comments. For every two negative comments, one advocate jumped in to help smash stigma.
